SUMMARY:EFG London Jazz Festival - The London Lineup
DESCRIPTION:Pick up what London’s emerging artists and youth music ensembles are putting down in this talent-packed afternoon show presented by EFG London Jazz Festival.\n\n\n\nWe are excited to be part of The London Lineup alongside some great bands.\n\n\n\nJulian Joseph Jazz Academy\, 12 noon – 12.30pmThe Julian Joseph Jazz Academy (JJJA) is celebrating its 10th anniversary and continues to offer talented young instrumentalists and vocalists an amazing opportunity to learn from some of the world’s top jazz musicians. At JJJA\, students are encouraged and guided to evolve their creative powers and performance skills\, through the exploration of the American roots of Jazz. \nWandsworth Jazz Orchestra\, 1.15pm – 1.45pm The Wandsworth Jazz Orchestra (WJO) are part of the Wandsworth Music Academy and\, under the direction of Olly Blackman and Dave Boraston\, tackle a wide range of big-band repertoire while honing ensemble technique\, stylistic interpretation and improvisation skills. Since its formation in 2015\, WJO has worked with artists including Miguel Gorodi\, Josephine Davies\, Tom White and\, most recently\, guitarist Sam Dunn\, ahead of their performance alongside him at the EFG London Jazz Festival. \nArtsTrain\, 2.30pm – 3pm ArtsTrain is an award-winning creative music project\, supported by Arts Council England\, that works with young people between the ages of 11 and 25\, primarily in the boroughs of Bromley\, Bexley and Lewisham. ArtsTrain runs songwriting\, community and artist development projects throughout the year\, which focus on participants creating their own new music. This year\, ArtsTrain’s Academy and artist development programmes will come together to perform as a collective at The London Lineup. \nThe JMI Youth Big Band\, 3.45pm – 4.15pm The JMI Youth Big Band is rooted in contemporary Jewish music and big band jazz\, assimilating myriad styles and influences from around the world through their own musical lens. The band brings together young musicians from diverse and varied backgrounds and traditions\, providing them with an inclusive approach to creative music learning and improvisation. Breaking boundaries and bridging cross-cultural divides\, this extraordinary ensemble focuses on the power and energy of community and creativity. JMI is delighted to be joined by special guest artist Jason Yarde for this event. \nGuildhall’s ImPossibilities\, 5pm – 5.30pm ImPossibilities was formed in 2013 to make music\, sound\, poetry and visual work inspired by Sun Ra\, which would reflect how his legacy continues to inspire\, decades after his departure from planet Earth. Since Guildhall School’s inception\, its students have collaborated with young aspiring musicians\, poets and leading international jazz musicians to create new musical hybrids under the artistic leadership of guitarist\, educationalist\, composer and Sun Ra archivist Paul Griffiths. \nYouthsayers\, 6.15pm – 6.45pm Youthsayers is South London–based music performance and education group set up in 2016 to engage young people in exciting and challenging ensemble work. Youthsayers is run by musicians from the established recording and performance group Soothsayers. \n\n\n\nFree entry\n\n\n\nClick here to find out more on Southbank Centre website
